Millions of visitors travel to Saint Joseph’s Oratory each year to pray for Brother André’s intercession. On Sunday, October 31, 2010, thousands participated in Masses to honor his life and legacy. More than 30,000 people attended a Mass of Thanksgiving for Saint André at Olympic Stadium. Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte, Archbishop of Montreal, presided over the two-hour Mass and spoke at length about Saint André. (For high resolution image, click here.)

Besides the reliquary containing a portion of Brother André's heart, other relics of his life were brought forward at a Mass of Thanksgiving for 30,000 in Olympic Stadium: the suitcase he carried for his many visits, wooden crutches representing those cured by Brother André's prayers, St. Joseph oil and blueprints of the oratory building. Pilgrims Celebrate Saint André

More than 30,000 pilgrims participated in celebrations for Saint André at Olympic Stadium in Montreal. There were large groups of faithful and the crowd spanned all ages, from toddlers in strollers to seniors using walkers. This was a chance for North Americans who couldn’t make the trip to Vatican City to participate in the celebration. (For high resolution image, click here.)

On October 17, 2010, tens of thousands of pilgrims from around the world filled St. Peters Square, including members and supporters of the former Indiana Province, to celebrate the canonization of Brother André Bessette, the first saint of the Congregation of Holy Cross. St. André is known for a life of service and care for the sick in Montreal, Canada, and inspires the men of Holy Cross in their ministry in education, parish and mission. Brother André had a strong devotion to St. Joseph. He prayed to God for St. Joseph's intercession when he healed the sick. Brother André's dream was to build a shrine to Jesus' earthly foster father. The Oratory was completed after his death and is Canada's largest church. The Oratory's dome is the third-largest of its kind in the world. St. André Bessette is Canada's first saint.
