Year of the Brother Resources

The 2010 General Chapter called for a Year of the Brother to begin on the first anniversary of St. André’s canonization, Oct. 17, 2011. This year is a recognition of the integral role brothers have in the life and ministry of Holy Cross and will serve as an opportunity to celebrate the brother’s vocation, work to increase awareness of this vocation and pray for an increase to vocations.

In preparation for this year, the Congregational Commission on Religious Life, Vocations, and Formation has prepared a set of documents and resources for your use (see the .pdf files below):

  • A banner, prayer card and brochure that can be used for public promotion of the year.
  • A prayer for use by the Congregation throughout the Year of the Brother.
  • Three days of prayer to invoke the patronage of Bl. Moreau, St. André and St. Joseph at the opening of the year.
  • A worship aide and readings for holy hours throughout the year.
  • A listing of significant dates in the history of Holy Cross for use in planning events

Each local house is encouraged to consider how it will participate in this Year of the Brother on private and public levels. Within the local Community it would be appropriate to integrate opportunities to pray for this year and for an increase to vocations as well as to mark the year with local celebrations. Within your apostolate, educational efforts and special celebrations would help to draw attention to this Year, as well as to the brother’s vocation.
