Fr. Eric Jasmin, C.S.C., Provincial Superior of the Province of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Haiti, has reported that all of our Holy Cross religious are thankfully safe from Saturday’s earthquake in the northwestern part of the country. Unfortunately, our school at Saint-Albert-Le-Grand Parish in Ravine-Trompette endured severe structural damage and will need to be demolished.
Likewise, Sainte-Rose-De-Lima Church, rectory, school, and parish offices in Pilate will also need major repairs. The Superior General is asking prayers for our Holy Cross religious and for all of the Haitian people, who have already suffered much over the years and now have to recover from yet another natural disaster. May Our Lady of Holy Cross strengthen their spirits with hope and comfort.
The Holy Cross Mission Center along with the General Administration of the Congregation would like to support this effort to encourage all Holy Cross religious to pray for our community in Haiti and the people they serve. Tremendous damages to homes, churches and other buildings as well as the infrastructure in the northern part of Haiti will likely take years to recover.
A fund has been established at the Holy Cross Mission Center to receive any donations from those who are able and interested. This is an opportunity for any Holy Cross religious, our local communities or apostolates to send some financial support that would go to the repair work needed for the two parishes which Holy Cross serves and leads. All donations received will be sent from the Holy Cross Mission Center to the provincial administration in Port-au-Prince and then to the parishes in need.
