Last month, His Eminence Patrick Cardinal D’Rozario, C.S.C., Archbishop Emeritus of Dhaka and the first-ever cardinal from Bangladesh, participated in the Extraordinary Consistory of the College of Cardinals from June 26-27. The meeting served as an opportunity for Pope Leo XIV to receive input from cardinals from all over the world.
The consistory met with Pope Leo XIV in the Paul VI Hall and the Synod Hall at the Vatican for four sessions, which addressed what kind of world we are called to proclaim the Gospel in, the culture of power and the civilization of love, building the good (the worksites of our time), and the path of synod implementation. Cardinal D’Rozario described the sessions as engaging.
While in Rome, Cardinal D’Rozario presided at Mass at his titular parish, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament and the Canadian Martyrs. (Every cardinal is assigned an honorary parish in Rome.) The following day, he joined Pope Leo XIV and the other cardinals for the consistory’s closing Mass on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29, at St. Peter’s Basilica.
Cardinal D’Rozario’s presence among the world’s cardinals was a reminder of the enduring contribution of the Congregation of Holy Cross to the life of the universal Church. We are grateful for the ways in which our men serve not only the local Church, but the global Church as well.
