Catholics interested in the education and ministry of Congregation of Holy Cross parishes, schools, missions and apostolates can benefit from a newly released Directory of Devotional Prayer.
The prayer book, designed to serve both the spiritual needs of priests and brothers of the Congregation and the Catholics served by them, is a compilation of prayers, popular devotions, examination of conscience, reflections and meditations. The book provides context from Scripture and the Constitutions of the Congregation.
The Directory also celebrates the fundamental and distinctive elements of the Holy Cross charism: conformity to Christ, trust in Divine Providence and hope in the Cross. This is the first time the Directory been published in more than 60 years.
It was first developed by Blessed Basil Moreau, founder of Holy Cross, as a gift to his young religious community to assist in their ongoing formation.
Rev. Hugh Cleary, C.S.C., Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross from 1998 to 2010, requested that a new Directory be prepared for the Community in an effort to deepen the union of the Congregation with a shared set of prayers and devotions, as Blessed Moreau did about 175 years ago.
Rev. Peter Rocca, C.S.C., chaired the committee of Holy Cross Religious which brought the project into being under the promulgation of Superior General Richard Warner, C.S.C. It was published by Ave Maria Press, a mission of the United States Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross.
