In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, FaithND compiled reflections on some of the meaningful sacramental moments in the church.
The Basilica celebration will begin Friday with a Mass at 4 p.m. Most Rev. Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., Bishop of Peoria, Ill., will preside. Alumni of the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir will perform and a reception will follow in the Rotunda of the University’s Main Building. The events are open to the public.
The Basilica serves as the oldest and principal church of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the United States and as the cornerstone of liturgical life at Notre Dame. The Mass and reception will commemorate the consecration of the Basilica by the Most Rev. Joseph G. Dwenger, bishop of Fort Wayne, Ind., on Aug. 15, 1888.
FaithND is an online prayer ministry of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.
