Folk Choir Concert to Benefit Holy Cross Missionary Work

The University of Notre Dame Folk Choir is having its 20th annual concert that this year benefits the educational, peace-building, medical and religious efforts of the Holy Cross missions in Uganda, Africa.

The concert will be from 8 to 9:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus. The concert will be after the pep rally during Parents’ Weekend at Notre Dame. Rev. Robert Loughery, C.S.C., associate director of the Holy Cross Mission Center, will speak at the event. Among the musical selections, which include several pieces in African dialects, are “Baba Yetu/The Lord’s Prayer,” “Jina La Bwana/An African Magnificat,” “Lorica of Ballyloughlin,” “and “Alma Mater: Notre Dame, Our Mother.”

There is no admission for the concert, but a free-will offering will be taken for Holy Cross missionary work. The choir, which is under the direction of Steve Warner and Assistant Director Karen Schneider-Kirner, has raised more than $60,000 for the Holy Cross Mission Center and the Congregation’s work overseas.

The public is invited to attend.
