All four Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province higher education ministries are listed in the Forbes’ magazine annual ranking of America’s Best Colleges.
The University of Notre Dame (Ind.) came in at 12th in the survey, while the University of Portland (Ore.) was 252nd; Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.), 307th; and King’s College (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.), 447th.
Education is one of the core ministries of the Congregation. FounderBlessed Basil Moreau charged priests and brothers to be “educators in the faith” and to educate the hearts and the minds of students.
For the past four years, Forbes has ranked 650 – or less than 15 percent – of the approximately 4,400 colleges and universities nationwide in its annual list. It’s compiled by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity. Selection is based on post-graduate success, including alumni pay, student satisfaction, debt, four-year graduation rate and competitive awards.
Meanwhile, Stonehill and Notre Dame also are listed in the Princeton Review’s 2013 “Best 377 Colleges,”which was released on Aug. 21.
