Rev. Andrew Gawyrych, Associate Director of Vocations for the Congregation of Holy Cross, U.S. Province of Priests and Brothers, made the connection between the Notre Dameand Holy Cross families during his July 15 Homily at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
Fr. Drew gave the Homily for the 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time at the Basilica making the connection about what’s special about Notre Dame, one of four educational apostolates of the U.S. Province, and what’s special about Holy Cross by retelling graduate Matt Swinton’s story. Swinton, striken with spinal muscular atrophy, built a family in O’Neill Hall at Notre Dame, and his experience parallels the family of Holy Cross, which finds its roots in the Holy Family.
Fr. Drew said in Sunday’s reading from the Gospel of Mark (6:7-13), Jesus is telling us “We don’t have to go it alone.”
