WASHINGTON, D.C. – More than 600 students and 100 faculty, staff and family members from the University of Notre Dame attended the 2013 March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Friday (Jan. 25, 2013).

The annual march brings people together from all over the United States to rally for the protection of human life from conception until natural death..

Fifty members of the Notre Dame Right to Life Club were asked by march organizers to carry the official event banner along the march route, down Constitution Avenue from the National Mall to the Supreme Court.

The University observed the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Jan. 22, 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision, which legalized abortion in the United States, with a week of activities. March participants received a blessing Tuesday at a send-off Mass organized by Campus Ministry at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Students participating in Eucharistic Adoration last week were encouraged to pray for greater respect for human life. Twelve buses took the ND participants to Washington on Wednesday and Thursday. Rev. John Jenkins, C.S.C., President of the University, also participated with the group.
