Superior General to Address Holy Cross College Class of 2013

Father Richard Warner, Superior General

Rev. Richard V. Warner, C.S.C., Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross, will address the Class of 2013 during the 46th Commencement at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, Ind.

Graduation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, in the Pfeil Center. It is open to the public.

Fr. Warner, who will also receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from the College, was elected the Congregation’s 12th Superior General in 2010 and he leads the worldwide ministries of Holy Cross from its headquarters in Rome.

Fr. Warner was recevied into the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1958, and made his First Vows on Aug. 16, 1959. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1962 and professed Final Vows on Aug. 16, 1962. He earned a Licentiate in Theology from Catholic University in Santiago, Chile, in 1966; and was Ordained on Dec. 17, 1966, in Lakewood, Ohio. From 1967 to 1973, he taught English and theology at St. George’s College in Santiago, where he also served in administration. In 1973, Fr. Warner became the Provincial Treasurer and a member of the Provincial Council for the former Indiana Province of Holy Cross. He was elected Provincial Superior in 1979, serving nine years. Fr. Warner served as Director of Campus Ministry at Notre Dame for 21 years. For much of that time, he also served as Presidential Counselor. He is a trustee emeritus of Notre Dame, serves as chair of the board of directors of the Center for the Homeless and Memorial Health Systems, both in South Bend, Ind., and is a corporate member of Holy Cross FamilyMinistries of New York.
