The Yancana Huasy team continues improving comprehensive therapeutic care for children with severe and multi-disability conditions through bio-mechanical support and administering more than 1,000 medical evaluations in the past year. Additionally, they have trained 150+ parents to properly execute pastoral care at home to help their children improve their posture and avoid malformations. The parents also receive support to help them cope with and accept all that caring for a child with disabilities entails.
Yancana Huasy, meaning ‘House of Work’ in the Quechua language of Peru, was founded by Holy Cross in 1981 as one of the first centers of its kind among the impoverished barrios of Lima serving children and young adults with severe physical and mental disabilities. The center, which serves more than 8,000 children annually, offers a comprehensive program that includes medical care, educational and basic living skills, physical and occupational therapy, and vocational training. The center also promotes the rights and dignity of those with challenges and advocates for their full integration into all aspects of Peruvian society. In short, Yancana Huasy is a place where thousands of children and their parents find a compassionate ear, a positive vision, as well as loving care and support
