Educational Apostolates to Participate in Pope’s Prayer and Fasting for Syria

All four of the U.S. Province’s educational apostolates will join Pope Francis’ call for a day of fasting and prayer for Syria.

On Sept. 1 during his Sunday Angelus,Pope Francis called upon Catholics throughout the world to pray and fast Saturday for peace throughout the world, but especially in Syria and the rest of the Middle East. During his public audience at St. Peter’s Square on Wed., Sept. 4, he gave a heart felt plea for everyone to particpate and be united in Christ for peace (watch the video).

The University ofNotre Damehas a number ofevents plannedthat begin Friday with Mass and Eucharistic Adoration. Throughout the weekend there will be Masses with special intentions for peace in Syria, fasting, student-led, prayer at the Main Building and at the Grotto.

Campus Ministry at Stonehill College is offering an hour of prayer beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Mary.

Participants will join people around the world in praying for peace because, as Holy Cross Servant of god Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., so fervently said, “a world at prayer is a world at peace.” Stonehill also is encouraging its constituents to participate in some form of personal fasting Saturday to join people of good will throughout the world in hungering for peace and justice.

Campus Ministry at the University of Portland is planning a 5 p.m. multi-denominational, interfaith prayer service Saturday at the Chapel of Christ the Teacher.

Meanwhile, King’s College will include prayers for peace in Syria as part of its Sept. 11 Inter-faith Prayer Service for Peace and a Mass for Peace. The events are sponsored by Campus Ministry, the Knights of Columbus and the Student Government Association at the College.
