Vocation Story: I first met Holy Cross as a pre-medicine major at Notre Dame. My plans were straightforward: I wanted to get married, have a family, and become a doctor. Over my four years at Notre Dame, I slowly experienced a greater pull on my heart to discern religious life and priesthood. As I met more and more Holy Cross religious, I saw the joy of their community life, their mission, and their relationship with Jesus. As I had profound experiences of faith and community in my Notre Dame residence hall, I saw that religious life in Holy Cross was speaking to me. I found that I could best love and be loved by others through prayer, community, and the shared mission of Holy Cross.
Ways that you resonate with the Holy Cross charism, “Educators in the Faith”: I think of Basil Moreau’s statement, “The mind will not be educated at the expense of the heart.” Whatever we do as Holy Cross, we start by educating the heart. We begin with the fundamental teaching of our faith that we have a God Who deeply and profoundly loves every single one of us. Whatever the ministry we serve, we seek to form hearts to know and respond in gratitude to God’s love.
One aspect of Holy Cross spirituality that speaks to you the most and why: The Holy Family speaks deeply to me because that is core of our community life and why I have grown to love Holy Cross so much during my time in formation. Holy Cross has become a family for me, and our devotion to the Holy Family is how we are able to truly see one another as brothers.
