This past weekend, the Congregation of Holy Cross celebrated the final profession of vows of four seminarians in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame, followed by their ordination to the diaconate at Moreau Seminary & Scholasticate.
The four newly professed were Chris Mulholland, C.S.C.; T.J. Grodan, C.S.C.; Soikat Kulentino, C.S.C.; and Promod Rozario, C.S.C. Mulholland and Grodan, both Americans, participated in the Ganguly Exchange program, engaging in international ministry placements.
Kulentino and Rozario, originally from Bangladesh, followed in the footsteps of Servant of God Archbishop Theotonius Amal Ganguly, C.S.C., by studying at Notre Dame, professing their vows in the U.S., and returning to Bangladesh for their ministries.
These men enter religious life during a time when the Congregation of Holy Cross is more intercultural and interconnected than ever. Collaboration across Holy Cross jurisdictions is growing, made possible by advances in communication technology and transportation.
Reflecting on this broader context, the Superior General, Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., has encouraged the Congregation to go “beyond borders” in mission, quoting the Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross: “our mission sends us across borders of every sort” (2:17), and urging members “to reach out and cross not only the physical borders that separate nations and states, but all borders and walls we construct between ourselves and others.” All four of these new Holy Cross professions and ordinations thus speak not only to individual dedication, but also to a shared commitment to an international, interconnected religious life.
