This year, on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (the patronal feast day of the Congregation of Holy Cross), the Province of East Africa (PEA) celebrated the official opening of its new home for aged and ailing members — Holy Cross Center Kiserian in Nairobi, Kenya.
In addition to residential life, the new community house will also provide support to residents who are seeking to remain ministerially active, helping them serve in ways such as offering retreats and hearing confessions. Holy Cross Center Kiserian will also be the site of the Congregation’s cemetery in Kenya.
The official opening celebration was hosted by the center’s three current residents: Br. John Bailanda, C.S.C., Rev. Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C., and Rev. David Eliaona, C.S.C. The Most Rev. John Obala Owaa, Bishop of the Diocese of Ngong, was the main celebrant during the blessing of the house and its chapel.
In attendance at the blessing were other consecrated men and women, diocesan priests, lay collaborators, government officials, and friends from the neighborhood, some of whom came bearing “housewarming” gifts for the Kiserian community.
