Holy Cross Lake View SSS Students Celebrate Christ’s Presence and Gifts on Corpus Christi Sunday

This year, Corpus Christi Sunday (the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) was marked by several distinct celebrations for the students of Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School, in Jinja Wanyange–Musiima, Uganda.

The day began with Mass, which was concelebrated by Fr. Michael Mathews, C.S.C., and Fr Douglas Alinaitwe, C.S.C. In his homily, Fr. Matthews encouraged students to consider the significance of the Eucharist—the Body and Blood of Christ — which they were about to receive, telling them, “You are what you eat.” Additionally, he encouraged them to be intentional about living out Christ’s teachings in their daily lives.

Following Mass, a solemn Corpus Christi procession was held, in which students prayerfully followed Christ present in the Eucharist around the school premises.

Then a celebration of another sort—the celebration of students’ carefully nurtured God-given gifts—took place in the form of a talent show. Honoring the theme, “Resilience in talent development for growth of a creative economy,” the show featured dance routines and musical performances which delighted the audience. Adding to the merriment was the participation of several visiting University of Notre Dame students who also contributed their talents to the performances.

Two students received special recognition: Joana Naigembe and Talemwa Don Steve were respectively crowned Miss and Mr. LAVISCO 2025.

According to the school’s website, “The Ministry of Education and Sports recognizes the importance of talent shows in schools, emphasizing the role of arts in fostering academic excellence, discipline, and holistic development among learners. By hosting this event, Holy Cross Lake View SSS demonstrates its commitment to providing a well-rounded education that nurtures the creative potential of its students. Through this talent show, the school reaffirms its mission to mold holistic learners who are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to excel in various fields. The event was a testament to the school’s dedication to fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence.”
