On July 5th, the Province of East Africa inaugurated a year of celebration to mark 25 years of the Congregation’s mission in Tanzania. The celebratory Mass was held at St. Brendan Parish, Kitete, where Holy Cross first arrived in 2000.
The Most Rev. Anthony Gaspar Lagwen, Bishop of the Diocese of Mbulu, presided at the Mass, with Rev. Peter Caxton Mayanja, C.S.C., the Provincial Superior of East Africa, as the principal concelebrant.
At the end of Mass, Fr. Peter officially launched the Silver Jubilee celebrations, which will continue throughout the year. An entertaining cultural show followed, led by students from St. Brendan Nursery and Primary School. There was also a panel discussion exploring the pastoral and educational contributions of Holy Cross in Tanzania, where the Congregation’s mission has expanded beyond St. Brendan Parish to other regions, including Mwanza, Musoma, and Sombetini in Arusha.
