What drew you to Holy Cross? The joy and witness of the Holy Cross priests and brothers on campus first drew me to religious life. It was in learning about Holy Cross’ spirituality and its focus on showing the world hope through the cross – as well as in Our Lady of Sorrows, the Congregation’s patroness – that I fell in love with the order.
Your Vocation Story: I discovered Holy Cross first at the University of Notre Dame where I studied physics in medicine, desiring to become a doctor. My junior year was interrupted by COVID as well as by God’s call for me. During this time of unrest and fear in the world, I fell in love with the Mass and prayer, especially prayer with Our Mother at the foot of the Cross, Our Lady of Sorrows. These moments of prayer felt like the only time where hope, rest, and peace could be found, and in these, I felt a call to go deeper, a desire to radically serve others through a life devoted to Christ and helping others find this same hope. I joined Holy Cross after graduating from Notre Dame and was drawn to the witness of St. Andre Bessette, a saint who lived simply and humbly, bringing healing and hope through his weakness and relationship as a religious Brother in Holy Cross. This was a life that I found joyful and uncomplicated, a witness of Jesus’ desire to be our brother that I felt God calling me to, and so I joined the Brother’s society at the end of my novitiate year.
