The dedication ceremony included a blessing of the library by Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C., president of the University. UP is an educational apostolate of the United States Province.
The renovation project began in May 2012 and included a new, modern library built on the root structure of the old library. It was closed during the last academic year and reopened in August, with 24-hour-a-day access for students.
The renovation was funded by UP’s RISE Campaign, a fundraising effort that began in December 2010 and seeks to raise $175 million by next year. Portland is close to its goal, with about $163 million raised thus far.
