On February 28, 2025, the Atharogram Christian Welfare Association of Dhaka City hosted a celebration marking the centenary of the birth of Servant of God Archbishop Theotonius Amal Ganguly, C.S.C., a Holy Cross priest and archbishop who is currently the only Bangladeshi on the path to canonization. Although his centenary was in 2021, the event was delayed.
The celebration took place at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ramna, Dhaka, Bangladesh, where the church, courtyard, and surrounding areas were beautifully decorated. Devotees gathered from 4:00 PM to attend a Mass at 5:00 PM, celebrated by His Excellency Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze, OMI, with Bishop Theotonius Gomes, C.S.C., and other priests assisting. In his homily, Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze highlighted Archbishop Ganguly’s holiness and sainthood, noting that celebrating his centenary with devotion could help advance his beatification process.
After the Mass, special prayers were offered at Archbishop Ganguly’s grave, and wreaths were laid in his honor. A memorial service followed, along with the unveiling of a magazine published for the occasion. The event concluded with a shared meal, and Albin Dessa, President of the Atharogram Christian Welfare Association, thanked all those involved in making the celebration a success.
In addition, Archbishop Ganguly’s 105th birth anniversary was observed at his home in Hashnabad, where Mass was celebrated. Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze praised Archbishop Ganguly as a pious and humble leader, and attendees continued to pray for his eventual canonization, hoping he will soon be declared Blessed and Saint.
