Project report | Painting a brighter future for Notre Dame College, Mymensingh

What began as a master plan in 2014 has now become a reality for Notre Dame College, Mymensingh. The six-story building, designed to support the college’s growing student population as well as Garo students and seminarians from the Diocese of Mymensingh, was completed in 2025. A proposal for $76,870.00 was subsequently submitted to the Holy Cross Mission Center (HCMC) to fund the painting of the entire building, providing a finished facility that can fully serve the needs of the college community. Today, the project directly benefits 3,306 students, 45 teachers, and 30 staff members.

The need for additional space has grown alongside the college itself. Reflecting on this growth, Principal Rev. Thadeus Hembrom, C.S.C., shared, “The number of students is increasing every year. There were only 658 students when Notre Dame College Mymensingh first started its academic session in 2014. But today we have a total of 3,306 students.” As demand for admission increased, limited classroom space prevented the college from accepting all qualified applicants. “More and more students want to get admitted in our college but due to lack of enough classrooms/spaces we could not admit all of them,” he explained. With the construction and painting now complete, the college is able to provide a more comfortable learning environment and welcome more students each year.

Rev. Mrinal Michael Mrong, C.S.C., who was closely involved in the project, emphasized the impact the new building will have on the wider community: “There were pressures to admit more students especially from the Christian community but because of a lack of facilities we could not do it before. But with the completion of the project, we can admit more students and the community will benefit from this.” He also expressed gratitude to the HCMC and its supporters, noting that the painting project helped bring the long-term vision for the building to completion.

Thanks to donor support, Notre Dame College is now better equipped to respond to growing educational needs and expand opportunities for students across the region.
